Estes Kefauver represented Tennessee in the U.S. House from 1939 until 1949 and the U.S. Senate from 1949 until 1963. A native of North Dakota, Vendsel was an unsuccessful candidate for the U.S. House in 1954 and the U.S. Senate in 1958.
