Description

Congressmen Usher Burdick and William Lemke examine a document.

Usher Burdick had a long career in North Dakota politics, serving in the North Dakota House of Representatives (1909-1911), as Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota (1911-1913), and in the United States House of Representatives (1935-1945 and 1949-1959).

William Lemke served several terms in the U.S. House of Representatives: the first from 1933 to 1941 and the second from 1943 until his death in 1950. He was an important figure in the rise of the Nonpartisan League in North Dakota and was the Union Party Candidate for President in 1936.
