Artist Bio
Denise K. Lajimodiere is a citizen of thenTurtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians and is a self-proclaimed Anishinaabe author, artist, and academic. Dr. Lajimodiere earned her Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate degrees from the University of North Dakota and has worked as an educator for forty-four years, serving as an elementary school teacher, principal, and professor at North Dakota State University in Educational Leadership.
In addition to bead working, Lajimodiere dances Jingle Dress and has revived the pre-contact tribal art of birch bark biting previously done in turtle Mountain. She has published both poetry and academic writing, including her book Stringing Rosaries: The History, the Unforgivable, and the Healing of Northern Plains Indian Boarding School Survivors (2019).
