Additional Information

Born in Germany and raised in New Jersey, Kiki Smith, is the daughter of sculptor Tony Smith (1912-1980). Best known as a feminist artist and for sculptural work and installations, she is also a prolific print maker.

Smith’s diptych Fall/Winter depicts two views of a female figure with animal and plant forms. The background darkens as seasons change, revealing Smith’s continual interest in the theme of life, death, and regeneration. An ominous tone is bolstered by only representing the final seasons of the year.
