This is the most important bridge in -London. It connects the main business center of the city with the Borough, a populous manufacturing district, It has been ascertained that on an average day of 24 hours, 170,000 persons and 20.000 vehicles cross this bridge. It was built in 1831, of fine granite from de- signs made by Sir John and George Renie at a cost of $10,000,000, It is constructed of 5 arches, is 54 feet wide and 928 feet long. The numerous lamp posts on the bridge were cast from the metal of the French canon taken by the British in the Peninsular war.
