The work of an anonymous American artist, this image reflects the influence of the Hudson River School, a nineteenth-century group of painters who captured the unique beauty of the American landscape in images of upstate New York and rural New England. The artist added to the decorative quality of the work by employing a mineral compound that gives the image a glittering sheen.
