Artist Bio

Israel Silvestre was a French artist born in 1621 in Nancy, France. Silvestre's father died when he was young and he was soon taken in and studied under his uncle, Israel Henriet who was friends with Jacques Callot. He is best known for his etchings and prints that depicted detailed views of famous buildings in France. Works by Israel Silvestre can be found in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Rijksmuseum and many others internationally.
