Artist Bio
Wenceslaus Hollar was a Czech artist born in 1607 in Prague. He studied etching under Matthaus Merian in Frankfurt. His work later attracted the attention of Thomas, earl of Arundel and settled in England. Hollar is best known for illustrating several books and his etchings of the views of London after a great fire in 1666. Works by Wenceslaus Hollar can be found in the permanent collections of the Rijksmuseum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art and many others internationally.
