Artist Bio
Edward Ruscha was born in 1937 in Omaha, NE and is currently based out of California. Ruscha studied commercial art at the Chouinard Art Institute from 1956 to 1960. He is best known for his artist's books that strategically combine photography with short phrases and brand names to showcase the sole architectural, emotional or cultural subject of the book. He is also known for his experimental material use in his paintings and drawings, such as using chewing tobacco, spinach, Pepto-Bismol and even caviar. Edward Ruscha has work in the permanent collections of the Walker Art Museum, the Tate Museum, the Whitney Museum, and many other collections both private and public.
