    Description

    An undated black and white photograph of the Metropolitan Theater located at 116 South Third Street in Grand Forks. "The Met" was originally built in 1890 as the Grand Forks Metropolitan Opera House.

    The Metropolitan Theatre was built at a cost of $91,000 and had a seating capacity of 900. It opened November 10, 1890 and was managed by the Metropolitan Theatre Company. It was adapted to a movie theater in 1910. Then in 1940 much of the original theatre structure was removed and the building was converted to and entertainment center with a bowling alley cafe and bar, and apartments upstairs. (gfpreservation.com) After the 1997 flood, in which the building was extremely damaged, man of the locals and historic preservationists, and was later turned into a a brew pub.
