Description
Captain Alexander Griggs founded Grand Forks in 1870. He filed the first city land plat in 1875, following the formal establishment of Grand Forks County. He served as Grand Forks Mayor from 1888 until 1889. Health concerns caused him to move to Washington in 1891. He died there in 1903. (from They Came to Stay, page 3)
