Description
Looking from Demers onto North Third Street around 1915, this black-and-white photograph shows a lively, well-attended community parade proceeding down a bustling commercial street in downtown Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Horse-drawn floats navigate a snow covered street lined with dense crowds of spectators wearing early 20th-century attire, including brimmed hats, bowlers, and long coats. Leading in the two front spot of the parade is two horse-drawn floats and coming in behind them are a few horse drawn carriages.
The backdrop features multi-story brick and stone storefronts. Prominently visible on the upper right corner is the multi-story Grand Forks National Bank building. Other visible local commercial entities include a canvas awning marked "THE ONTARIO STORE" on the left and a large painted wall billboard in the upper left advertising "Collins & Murphy." Utility poles heavily laden with overhead electrical and telephone lines span above and across the street.
