The traditions of the Baule people ascribe great power to their artworks, which connect the ancestral spirit world to the providence of the living.
As is characteristic of the Baule style, the symmetrically balanced figure on display has muscular legs that are somewhat flexed and her hands are positioned on her abdomen.
