Abstract

A UND ROTC Soldier and two Airmen enter the officer ranks at special military ceremonies held Friday

Three University of North Dakota students officially joined the ranks of the U.S. Military Officer Corps today, Friday, Aug. 8, in two separate ceremonies held at the campus Armory, the headquarters of the school's Reserve Officer Training Program.

The students also received their academic degrees from UND at the school's summer commencement event held at the Chester Fritz Auditorium on campus.

One of the students, Antonin Frederick Boubin, was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Boubin is from Owatonna, Minn., and is graduating with an accountancy degree.

Two other UND students were commissioned as part of a ceremony for the U.S. Air Force. Zachary Martin Schmidt and Christian Hale Tambeaux are now second lieutenants, as well. Schmidt, a native of Rochester, Minn., will receive his degree in airport management, and Tambeaux, a Green Bay, Wis., native, will receive his degree in commercial aviation.

Lt. Col. Anthony K. Nishimura, UND professor of aerospace Studies, presided over the Air Force Commissioning ceremony, while Lt. Col. Clarence L. Carroll IV, professor of military science at UND, presided over the Army Commissioning event.
