Abstract
NDUS/UND IT hub opens on campus
New building to serve as home of the information technology partnership between the North Dakota University System and the University of North Dakota
The North Dakota University System and the University of North Dakota held the official opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Information Technologies Building Friday, Nov. 22, at 9 a.m. The ceremony took place at the new building, located on the west edge of the UND campus near the intersection of 42nd Street and University Avenue in Grand Forks.
NDUS Interim Chancellor Larry Skogen and Board President Kirsten Diedrich were on hand to provide remarks, as was UND President Robert Kelley.
The building is a partnership between NDUS and UND. It will house work groups responsible for software development, system and database administration, integrated services, enterprise and user services, network and communications, ODIN library services, project management, security and access control, and Campus Solutions, the online student portal for the North Dakota University System. A data center housing the servers and equipment will also open in conjunction with the new building.
Said NDUS Interim Chancellor Larry Skogen, "Collaboration between the North Dakota University System and its institutions is essential to our long-term success. This beautiful and functional new building on the UND campus, which will be the home for our comprehensive information technology, will help make that collaboration possible."
Added UND President Robert Kelley, "UND is looking forward to working in partnership with the North Dakota University System to deliver first-class technology services in this first-class facility. We thank the State Board of Higher Education and the North Dakota Legislature for their support of this project."
Construction on the building began in 2012. It is approximately 40,000 gross square feet and can accommodate 125 employees as currently configured, with 150 maximum.
Most employees have already moved into the new building, with the remainder expected to move in over the next few weeks.
The building was designed by Icon Architectural Group of Grand Forks, with construction services provided by JP Structures, Inc., of Menahga, Minn.
