Description
This letter from J.R. Harmon from Fort Yates, North Dakota, to U.S. Representative Usher L. Burdick, dated February 28, 1938, where Harmon expresses concern that the choice of Superintendent of the Standing Rock Agency. He suggests selecting someone who is both Indigenous and white might "bridge" the "gap" between the groups. He also advocates that Tribal Council be allowed to recommend a candidate for approval by the Commissioner of Indian Affairs and urges delaying the appointment until a suitable choice is found.
