Description
This handwritten letter, dated January 16, 1956, from Frank Heart of Emmet, North Dakota to United States (US) Representative Usher Burdick provides an account of a general council meeting held on January 9, 1956 on the Fort Berthold Reservation during which the tribes discussed the proposed US Senate Bill 2151. Heart says that the members present voted against supporting the bill by a vote of 37 to 0. Heart provides five reasons why it was voted against, including that the bill is designed to disorganize the Three Affiliated Tribes and that the bill is supported by the Tribal Council but it does not have the approval of the people.
