Description

Johanna Kildahl and Marcia Bisbee dancing the minuet in gymsuits. Johanna Kildahl (1868-1967) received her BA from UND in 1898 and an MA in 1900. She was hired as an instructor of Biology (1900-1905) and Assistant Curator of the Museum (1900-1905). In 1909, she received a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Chicago, becoming the first women graduate from UND to receive a doctorate. (1876-1919) Marcia Bisbee received a BA in 1898 from UND, an MA in 1900 from UND in French, German, and Chemistry . She taught Chemistry at UND (1899-1913). UND women in the 1890's were taught to dance in gym class but were prohibited from practicing with men.
