Portrait of former President George Starcher taken in January of 1970. Starcher served as the ninth president of the University from 1954 to 1971. During his term he modernized the University - which had remained largely unchanged since World War I - in significant ways, many of which focused on the growth of campus intellectual life and streamlining the University's operations.
