Description

A selection of pages from the manuscript draft of Lydia O. Jackson’s book, Selected Poems. The title page lists the organizations from which Jackson received awards for her writing. Other pages include acknowledgements of the original places of publication for the included poems; a page dedicating the work to her family; a complete table of contents; and five of the poems included in the book: “Spring,” “Floodviews,” “Cupid and Psyche,” “The Poet,” and “Roberta.” The poems engage with topics and themes related to nature, the North Dakota landscape, the Red River Flood of 1950, mythology, poetic inspiration, and family. The acknowledgements page speaks to the breadth of local, regional, and national publications in which Jackson’s work appeared. Jackson submitted her work to a wide range of publications, including literary journals, women’s journals, and agricultural newspapers and journals like the Dakota Farmer.
