In this audiovisual recording from Thursday, March 21, 2002, as part of the 33rd Annual UND Writers Conference: “Explorations," Bill Holm, David Treuer, Eddy Harris, Kate Daniels, and Ursula Hegi participate in a panel called “Writing as Exploration.” The panelists discuss escape and discovery through literature, the effect of migration on writing, overcoming adversity, using characters to explore emotion, their metaphors of the writing process, using writing to explore unfamiliar points of view, writing bilingually, the error of reading ethnic writing as ethnography, the interview style of NPR's Terry Gross, learning from other writers, handling editorial criticism, and how their families accept their careers.
