Derricotte reads “Early Memory: The California Zephyr” and “Lightning Bug” from The Black Notebooks and engages the audience in a dialogue about racism and racial stereotypes, and the poems “Tender,” “Not Forgotten,” “The Touch,” and “The Body Awakening” from the collection Tender, and “Delivery” from Natural Birth. Derricotte also responds to audience questions about facing the difficulties of history and her technical craft. She closes by singing “Deep Song” by Billie Holiday.
