Description

This audiovisual recording from March 25, 1988 as part of the 19th annual UND Writing Conference: “Parent & Child” features Adam Hochschild, Patrick Hemingway, and W.D. Snodgrass forming the panel “Fathers and Sons.” The panelists discuss the literary tradition and historical power of father and son relationships, their writing about their fathers, the strength of the father's role in a family, writing about sibling relationships, Adolf Hitler and his father's relationship, and the writers' relationships with their fathers. Snodgrass reads passages from two sections in Afterimages: “The House of Snodgrass” and “Grandfathers and Sons” as well as the poem “The Poet Mocked by Hysterical Academics.”
