Born in Detroit to an American mother and Turkish father, Suzanne Kanatsiz earned her BA from San Diego State University and MFA from San Jose State University. Currently teaching at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, Kanatsiz has previously taught art to diverse populations, including disabled adults and inmates of the California correctional system.
The artist's subject is blood, the basis of life, but the piece also suggests the ideas of interconnectedness and complex systems, both of which are foundational ideas for public health.
