As a University of North Dakota professor in Visual Arts from 1973-2007, Paulsen’s name and work are familiar to most artists and collectors in the region and beyond. His juxtapositions of objects and figures in collage-like arrangements are playful, puzzling, and provocative all at once.
Artist's Statement:
"The painting is a combined sympathetic feeling for being in a secure position of looking down upon a group of interesting shapes, yet being secure in one's own surroundings, a kind of imaginative danger and free flight."
