Abstract
From the introduction: "We propose [...] to illustrate, with examples from the languages of Vietnam and the Philippines, certain aspects of descriptive linguistics with which the Western world should be better acquainted and certain phenomena of comparative linguistics with which the Vietnamese people should be better acquainted. Since the features indicated are common to many languages of Southeast Asia, the applications of the paper should extend far beyond the limits of Vietnam and the Philippines."
