Abstract

The colloidal state of matter exhibits phenomena due to its physical properties which may contribute heavily to the mechanical weathering of rocks and minerals. This paper is primarily a discussion, evaluation, and correlation of these phenomena as related to natural geologic conditions.

The writer, upon completion of an experimental study of colloids, has decided that colloid plucking and colloid swelling are operative in nature and are important processes in physical weathering.
