Artist Bio
Paul Klee was born in Münchenbuchsee, Switzerland in 1879. As a child, he studied music and showed great skill as a violinist. In his teen years, his focus shifted to visual art and, in 1898, Klee moved to Munich, Germany to study at the Academy of Fine Arts. He is best known for his exploration color theory, teaching at Bauhaus, and his involvement in the artist group the Blue Rider with Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky. Klee's brightly colored works are influenced by the art movements of Cubism, Expressionism and Surrealism. Paul Klee's work can be found in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Phillips Collection, the Franz Marc Museum and several other collections internationally.
