Description

Photograph of Dr. James Grassick taken on an unknown date. Grassick graduated from Rush Medical College in Chicago and established a medical practice in Buxton, North Dakota soon after. He moved to Grand Forks in 1905 and became active in the campaign to improve public health and was appointed State Superintendent of Public Health two years later. Grassick then went on to help found the North Dakota Anti-Tuberculosis Association in 1909 and served as it's first President. Grassick was appointed as the University of North Dakota physician in 1917 and held that position for many years. During that time he was elected to the Presidency of the North Dakota State Medical Association and Camp Grassick, designed to combat tuberculosis in children, was named in his honor.

Grassick died on December 19, 1943, at the age of 93, in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
