Experiences of Ex-Cult Members Reintegration into Society and the Effects of Therapy Services: Occupational Therapy
Abstract
This paper focuses on the role of OT services within the adult (18 years and older) population in North America, Australia, and Europe who were previously members of a cult. A range of language has been used to define individuals who were previously in a cult. For the purpose of our paper, we will use the term “ex-cult members” as it is perceived as more empowering to the population (Wilkins & Owen, 2023). Utilizing the phrase “cult survivor” can often be interpreted as victimizing and dated language (Durocher, 1999; Jenkinson, 2013).
