From James Carley's notes: Redware storage jar 8 1/2" high, glazed inside except for one bit that wasn’t' covered. Well worn from use. "This came from the Shirley estate, New Market. Everything in the place was from the Civil War period or earlier. There hand't been a sale in the family for four generations." This is suggestive of the shapes of Solomon Bell. Purchased New Market VA.
