The rest of the mean are wearing uniforms, and Victor Wardrope, the team captain, is holding the football. The 1904 team had a 6-1-0 record, losing only a road game to Minnesota 35-0. A Minneapolis newspaper account made what is believed to be the first official use of the nickname "Flickertails" to describe the UND team which remained in place until 1930.
